SYNS was formed in January 2024. By the end of 2023, Muataz Lafta, a PhD candidate and MD from Uppsala, was invited by the President of SSFN, Professor Klas Kullander in Uppsala, to discuss the idea of SYNS. Muataz accepted the responsibility to establish SYNS and contacted PhD students from across Sweden to form a team. On January 29, 2024, the first meeting was held, and the SYNS council was formed with 7 members serving on the board from Uppsala, Stockholm, and Gothenburg.
